How to Check if an Online Casino Is Licensed in New Jersey

Short answer

Look the site up on the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) list of authorized internet gaming sites. The DGE says: “Any site not included on this list is NOT approved to offer Internet gaming in the State of New Jersey.” If the exact web address isn’t on that list, don’t treat it as a licensed NJ online casino.

Step by step

1. Open the official list. It lives on the NJ Attorney General’s site (njoag.gov): Division of Gaming Enforcement → Internet Gaming Information → Internet Gaming Authorized Sites. Use the government page itself, not a copy on a review site.
2. Match the exact domain. The list groups approved web addresses under each Atlantic City casino. For example, casino.draftkings.com is listed under Resorts Casino Hotel Atlantic City. Compare the address in your browser bar letter by letter. A lookalike spelling or a different ending is not the listed site.
3. Check the Atlantic City casino partner. Every online casino on the list sits under an Atlantic City casino. The DGE also publishes a list of internet gaming permit holders (last update September 22, 2026), with a permit number for each company.
4. Read the footer and the terms. Scroll to the bottom of the casino site and open its terms and conditions. Find the company you would be contracting with and any New Jersey licensing statement, then match those names to the DGE list. NJ rules say an operator’s terms must include the “Name of the party or parties with whom the patron is entering into a contractual relationship, including any licensee”.
5. Expect a location check. NJ regulations say the gaming system “shall employ a mechanism to detect the physical location of a patron upon logging into the gaming system”, and that internet gaming “shall only occur within the State of New Jersey” (narrow exceptions aside). If a real-money casino never checks your location, it isn’t behaving like an NJ-licensed site.
6. Expect age and ID checks (21+). When you open an account, the casino must “Verify that the patron is of the legal age of 21”. The regulations also require the message “If you or someone you know has a gambling problem and wants help, call 1-800-Gambler” on the log-on screen.

Red flags

• Not on the DGE list. This is the main test. The DGE issues approvals “on a rolling basis”, so check the current list rather than an old screenshot.
• Offshore sites. A real-money casino that isn’t on the list is not approved in New Jersey, however professional it looks. The DGE’s internet gaming dispute process runs through NJ casino permit holders: you file a complaint with the casino first, then the Division’s Internet Gaming Dispute Form if it isn’t resolved.
• Sweepstakes or “social” casinos. These are a different product, not DGE-licensed online casinos. None of the sweepstakes brands we cover under Other offers appears on the DGE list we checked. Stake.us’s own help center says it is “currently unable to accommodate players from … New Jersey” (Stake.us help center, dated July 10, 2026).
• No location or age checks. See steps 5 and 6. Licensed NJ sites have to do both.
